Radio 1 Assessment

I will be critically evaluating Radio 1.

Radio 1 varies its music for different music interests in 15-29 year olds. The difference in this radio station is that it likes to change genres quickly. Radio plays rock, indie, pop and electronic also with specialist programmes which may play completely different music then it usually does for the evenings. For example, Katy Perry gets played then straight after Don Broco is on. These two artists create music of different genres however they are both played on the same radio Station. Don Broco are famous for rock music whereas Katy Perry is labelled to fit into Chrisitan, dance, electronic and pop genre's.  It appeals to its audience by allowing every listeners needs to be filled. By varying the playlist listeners get  more of an opportunity to listen to different songs which may relate to their lifestyle. As they may have not have taken the time to listen to that certain genre of music however when they unintentionally listen to it on the radio, they may like it and their opinion may change. The evening schedule is different to the daytime. The daytime schedule is different every day. Radio 1 is controversial as people have different opinions on the music that they play. The evening schedule consists of specialists programmes such as Zane Lowe presenting. Using specialists programmes in the evening is effective to the 15-29 audience by remixing songs for them to hear different versions of the music they like.

I like Radio 1 because it plays a wide range of music. The genres radio 1 play are my favorite and I like the way they vary different artists.

1) What is a stations "Music's Format"?

- Music Format tells the station what they can & cannot play.

2) What is an A B C Playlist?

- An A B C playlist indicates how often the song gets played. A is the most popular, when a song gets played 3 or 4 times a day. B is the second most popular, when a song gets played 2 times a day. Finally C is when a song gets played only once a day.

3) What is "Music Scheduling"?

- Music Scheduling is when music is put into a playlist and given a specific time to be played.

5. Explain some techniques used by a music scheduler that keep the listener interested

By playing good music before and after the news to keep audience attracted. Also playing viewers requests helps by allowing the viewers to know they can control the playlist to some extent.
